Why US?

The United States remains the premier destination for international students because it has something for everyone. It offers a vast number of academic options and it is always possible to find the one program that is a perfect match for your interests. One can focus on a rather narrow area of a discipline or study a varied group of subjects – as per one’s requirements. The variety, flexibility and quality of an American education are what draw students to the US in large numbers everywhere.

Quality of academic programs
The biggest reason for choosing to study in the US is the fact that the quality and breadth of instruction is unparalleled in the world. The infrastructure and research facilities at universities are world class and many of the faculty members are leading authorities in their field. In fact, graduate students in select schools have the opportunity to work directly with Nobel laureates.
Experiential learning
The system relies on comprehension with little emphasis on rote learning. Along with this, there are opportunities for practical training generally integrated within the program thereby allowing students to obtain hands-on experience. Students are allowed to work on campus for up to 20 hours per week when school is in session and for up to 40 hours per week during holidays. The stipulation is that international students need to be enrolled for a full-time course of study. International students are not allowed to work off-campus, without special permission from the United States Government. Most degree programs offer international students at least 12 months of practical training upon completion of their program. This means that students are allowed to seek employment off-campus, in a company, generally in their area of interest.
Flexibility
The US educational system boasts of tremendous flexibility both in terms of choice of courses and in the design of the one’s individual educational experience. It is possible to start a major in one discipline and move into another field by the end of the first two years of education with increase in clarity in one’s educational aspirations. Also, since one graduates only upon completion of a certain number of credits, it is possible to graduate ahead of schedule or even add courses in another field of interest to graduate with a double major.
Cutting-Edge Technology
U.S. universities pride themselves on being at the forefront of technology and educational techniques, and in making available to their students the best possible equipment and resources. Most programs incorporate the latest technology into their curriculum helping you gain skills in using the latest technology.
Campus experience
Living on campus is an important feature of the US educational system. This experience teaches one to be independent and encourages one to learn how to co-exist in harmony.
Global Education
Experience in an international setting is a marketable commodity. Your long-term career prospects can be enhanced by and experience that develops self-confidence, independence, and cross-cultural skills - attributes in demand by employees world-wide.
Worldwide recognition
Good programs in the US have to earn their accreditation by meeting certain criteria, and this ensures a quality education, as well as a degree or certificate that is recognized. Hence, most good US degrees enjoy credibility in the world.
And you would not be alone in the US! In the 2010/11 academic year, 103,895 students from India were studying in the United States, making India the second leading place of origin for students coming after China according to the open doors report 2011.
